Setting Up Email for Android Phones

The following article will instruct you on how to configure your email on an Android device using both the default email client and K-9 Mail, a third party email client.

 

Using the Default Email Client

 

1) Open your email client.

 

2) Enter your full email address and password.

 

3) Select IMAP or POP3 for your account type.

 

4) On the final account setup, enter the following information:

 

        > Username - The email address you are trying to connect to (i.e. info@yourdomain.com)

 

        > Password - The password to that email address

 

        > IMAP / POP3 server - mail.mydomainname.com (be sure to input your actual domain name)

 

        > Port - 143 or 993

 

        > Security Type - None or Accept all certificates

 

        > IMAP path prefix - Leave blank

 

5) Click Continue and the email client will check your settings and connect to your account.

 

Outgoing Settings

 

6) Enter the following information:

 

        > SMTP Server:  Insert mail.mydomainname.com (be sure to input your actual domain name).

 

       > Security Type:  None or Accept all certificates

 

       > Port - 465

 

        > Check "Require Sign-in" box.

 

        > Username - The email address you are trying to connect to (i.e. info@yourdomain.com)

 

        > Password - The password to that email address

 

 7) Click Continue or Save, and the email client will check your settings and connect to your account.

 

 

Using K-9 Mail

 

1) Open the Google Play Store.

 

2) Find, install and open K-9 Mail.

 

3) Enter your full email address and password.

 

4) Select IMAP for your account type.

 

5) On the final account setup screen, enter the following information:

 

        > IMAP / POP3 server - mail.mydomainname.com (be sure to input your actual domain name)

 

        > Username - The email address you are trying to connect to (i.e. info@yourdomain.com)

 

        > Authentication - Password, transmitted insecurely

 

        > Password - The password to that email address

 

        > Port - 143 or 993

 

        > Security Type - None or Accept all certificates

 

        > Auto-Detect IMAP namespace - Leave checked

 

        > IMAP path prefix - Leave blank

 

 6) Click Next and the email client will check your settings and connect to your account.
